Dear Members,
1. Always make sure you look at the weather report before making the trip, do not risk your life for a fish or 1 day fun
2. Inform a family or friend of your intended location, return time etc (being on the kayak most of us do not carry mobile phone on us so it is hard to be reached or make emergency phone calls which boat goers can make)
3. Try to form groups and go out, try to avoid going alone.
4. Always wear PFD no matter how good a swimmer you are
5. Carry head light on your kayak if travelling in late afternoon. install 360degree light on your kayak
** test you PFD in shallow water to make sure you float....each PFD has a different specification and can only float up to certail weight. eg: same brand/company makes PFD for 30-45 kg, 45-65, 65-80 and so on....choose the one that matched your weight, rembeber one size does not fit all and if you wera a wrong PFD it equal to not wearing one**
I saw couple of people in Altona 15 m depths without a PFD on the kayak and when asked replied that they were good swimmers.....you choose your own fate at times I guess.
so please take care while enjoying.
