Introducing my take on the "kayacht" Firstly, I designed everything to be put together in the shortest possible time so from boot to flat yak to kayacht takes 11mins which is only 2.5mins longer than the usual setup time without the sail. The sail itself is only 16ft sq. which isn't big, but according to the hull resistance calculator it takes very little energy to take it up to 3kts to get to 4kts in my current configuration will need at least a 15kt wind, beyond that there's steep curve in the energy required which means that in relatively light winds I'll need at least a 40ft sq plus sail to get up beyond 5kts... that's too big to be quick, easy and portable... so the compromise was 16ft sq.
The leeboards are spring loaded, their default position is up and I have 3 rings in the line which give me varying degrees of depth depending on conditions, the whole thing is controlled from my seated position so I can quickly change tack without doing any awkward maneuvering.
Now all I've got to do is get it in the water and find out how crap I am at sailing!
Cheers'
Andrew

Smish that is one swish set up. Love the sail/leeboards unit, very smooth, very sleek, very functional. Good luck with the wet trial.

Meh... considered bow thrusters, but decided that the bar fridge and subwoofer for the waterproof stereo system were higher priorities!wokka1 wrote:Holy crap Smish...I thought I had too much time on my hands !!!

FarQ that is one impressive job, looking forward to hearing how it goes. Never thought I would be interested in a balloon yak, but that unit turns heads and is pretty bl##dy good.
I would love to know what it is like to scuba off, as it would be super stable for that type of thing.
