Extra Roof Support for Kayaks

Postby weekendwithbevo » 04 Mar 2020, 22:48

Hello Vyakkers,

There was a recent post about kayaks being transported during hot weather and how the heat effects the shape of the boat.
Having a trip planned to the Mildura Region I too had concerns about a 40 kg plastic, 5+ metre kayak sitting on two thin roof racks spaced about 1.5 metres apart especially on a warm day.

Here's a link to what I hope is the answer to my problem. I also hope others can use it, if they are in the same boat.
It's a cheap fix!

Cheers,

Murray.

When i first went to Portland i found this to be an issue, but taking the yak of the car while at camp allowed it to go back to normal, however it wasn't that hot on the trips down or back but from then on every time i use my roof racks i just put 75mm pvc under the yak that sit in the channels of the PA, this has certainly made a big difference with no deformation now and confident to carry my yak like that for several hours travel
