Re: Who uses a Saftey Flag?
Hmmm,should really think about making mine easier to see with a flag;
Its ok when its like this, but when I use it Polynesian style or just the Adventure, then all I have is the dive flag when diving.
Had a very close call with a boat off Hovel pile Tea Tree comp before last, no blame on him as the conditions were so rough and he didn't have a hope in hell of seeing me, and the wind was so bad I could not here him coming until the last second. Something I have always meant to do but haven't, would certainly be interested in a flag with a Vyak logo on it.
Hatters, like your idea of the glow strips, smart thinking.

When we say it's BIG RED SEASON, we don't mean a big red blood stain on the bay,
GET YOUR LIGHTS ON + YOUR PFD'S.
Happy Sailing Fishing and keep blowing bubbles.

Re: Who uses a Saftey Flag?
I had one just because it always seemed like a good idea, wasn't until i was paddling along with my eleven year old one day in a tiny bit of swell and realised that if he didn't have the flag I'd have lost him no more than 10 metres away now I have one because it's a flat out necessity. Unless I'm on a no powerboat lake, oh how I love those.

Re: Who uses a Saftey Flag?
I have my bright yellow fish club flag attached on a broom stick I use as ana anchor pole. It sits in one of my rod holders attached to my basket. I feel safer, it has had several uses and it doesn't cause any problems.

Bud I always have a flag up, there are too many mad jetskiers out there, and if there like the two young girls off RYE a few weeks ago they dont always look where they are going. These two were basically riding it backwards and looking at there mate behind them NO WORD OF A LIE they were doing bout 30knts well within the five knot marker. So you basically need a neon sign anouncing your presence. Dont be fooled into thinking its a big open space, it seems to make thing worse and as a pennisula local, I have seen the most incredibly stupid behaviour from boat owners who obviously have no understanding of basic marine saftey.
Note: it is my understanding that KAYAKS are classed as stationary vessals and as such have a 50mt wide birth exclusion zone.
And no I couldn't read there ID numbers otherwise I would of made the call.
