Great stuff Jim, the yak will transport much quieter and will be a lot safer for your roofracks transported upside down, as the wind will want to push the yak downwards, not up as would happen with the yak in the normal position. Also a trick i learnt a long time ago, put a twist in your tie downs and you get no road noise from them.
Great setup and i'm sure you'll have a ball fishing from it.

Hi Jim, I have plugged up all four scupper holes and carry a big sponge in the esky. I dry the yak out as it needs its, as a bit of splashing does get it. Keeping it dry keeps me a lot warmer. I have also used it in the surf with the holes plugged up and it still floats and is paddable even full of water (not very well though). I also use a 4 litre OJ container (cut down) to help with putting water into the esky and also removing large quantities of water out of the yak (waves). The Oj container also makes a relief container in the event of not having any alternatives.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Thanks for those tips Maverick and Bilby.
I didn't notice any road noise on this trip but that is handy to know. I already have a sponge in my kit but a small bucket will be handy. ;)
I can't plug both holes in the footwell because of how I have the sounder installed at the moment. However I have decided to put a hatch in and then silicone the transducer to the inside of the hull.
Now it's getting warmer a bit of water isn't an issue for the next few months.

Cheers,
Jim

As I said in my last post. Wasn't happy with my first attempt at installing the sounder... Also I wanted to be able to make use of some of the inner hull for storage.
So the dremel came out and I hacked a huge hole into my yak. Wasn't as scary as the first time, even though it's a much bigger hole lol.
Some progress pics...

Was a pretty easy job. But will make a big difference to my yak. Cost bugger all too.
Still need to work out the best way to mount the battery and sounder. Thinking about glueing a waterproof container inside the hull for the batt with some deans or similar plugs. Not sure about the sounder yet.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim,
Make sure you keep all the plastic offcuts, really handy for matching repair jobs if needed, something I didn't do

Looks good by the way :)

Yeah Eppalock is looking great. I think it's about 3/4 full now.
It shouldn't take long for the fish to make a comeback.
