Now ring Neil at 3AW, get it on air so those that have been fined know about it. Then sit back and watch the fireworks. Nice...
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.

Re: How are you supposed to move a 5m + Ski?
Here's how it finished up:
Made from round alu, its pretty light and reasonably aerodynamic. Took it for a test run this morning (down to Tackleworld) and it worked a treat so no rear overhang and only a few cms at the front for less than a third of the price of a nudge bar and t-rack.
Have a couple of pads on the bonnet to stop it scratching paintwork, but I'm planning on driving/rusting this car into the ground as a fishing wagon anyway so it doesn't really matter. With the angles on the bonnet, its a push fit and can't move backwards any further than where it is. Can be easily removed to stick it in the boot when not needed. It tilts inwards a little away from pedestrians and obstructs my view way less than the t-rack I used on a Bunnings ute.
Will give it a proper test on the way down to Ricketts in the morning.
Thanks again for the heads up on the hang gliding forums Shane

That looks awesome eoin! Professional done yeah? If I may ask... how much did it set you back? Wish I'd thought of that before doing what I've done, maybe will do that as a replacement for the H frame once it goes to crap, unless I do up a trailer....

That looks brilliant and regardless of legal overhang, that is far far better for the kayak and the car. Awesome.

The rack looks great Eoin - rock solid!
There would be records of those who were fined, Vic Roads should sort themselves out quickly because if this was the USA they'd already be staring down the barrel of a class action.
I think the biggest problem with the hand-out they're using is that Vic Roads staff referencing it seem not to be properly trained therefore making assumptions misinterpreting the illustrations rather than being across the actual regulation. The officer I spoke with at Nth Melb referenced exactly the same document taking no notice of the illustrations focusing instead on the relevant text.
Some people look at the pictures while others actually read the articles.
Thanks Anthony for chasing that up with Vic Roads.

Re: How are you supposed to move a 5m + Ski?
A set up I use for the adventure to allow additional bracing forward on the falcon. I have two wagons so it needs to be transferable so it easier than an additional roof bar on each car, and which would be a hinderance when using carrying the smaller yaks
Two sets of holes, one for each car set up as the matching roof bars are different heights on each car
Cross bar goes through rod holder mounts (similar to scottys)
Not as good as a front mount but it allows it to be pushed further forward and reduces overloading front bar with resultant" popping' of roof panel. makes the whole set up more rigid

Re: How are you supposed to move a 5m + Ski?
illustrations are only for the purpose of explaining the words. Words are the actual regulations. In this case it seems they missed the words in the regs, leaving a loophole. Be interesting to see what any revision would look like. Even the "symmetrical" box trailer illustration is misleading, as far as i am aware trailers commanly are not symmetrical about the axle

They are not allowed to be, but that is a whole other can of worms and the other definition of 'overhang'laneends wrote:, as far as i am aware trailers commanly are not symmetrical about the axle
