I started with a kingfisher then a ebay copy mini x then a outback and now a PA14.
Still have the ebay copy which I use for rivers and lakes and the pa for bay work.
I wouldn't change the past as I leaned heaps on the king fisher.

Re: Paddle v Pedal kayak.
My yaks have been paddle, paddle, peddle, peddle and paddle in that purchase order. For fishing alone I still like the peddler's. But being out of a paddler the upper bod (which was never really in too good a shape) has lost a bit of strength without trolling the km's. I also enjoy ticking the paddle blades over much more than peddling. Now I'm looking to mix the two. One foot in a paddler, one foot in a peddler...and an appendage getting salty dragging in the brine!
Re: Paddle v Pedal kayak.
I started off with an ebay noa knock off (paddle) and just upgraded to a Tarpon 140.
I like paddle yaks mainly for the fitness aspect as I get a better work out when doing a lot of trolling. I'm also not a huge fan of the peddle yaks on the market, for the offshore and PPB fishing that I do I feel like the paddle yaks are more ideal

I started with an electric motor powered yak.
Thought it was awesome until I test drove a Hobie with mirage drive.
Bought a Hobie outback about 2 weeks later.
There is nothing better than fishing in a yak hands free, I'll never go back to anything without a pedal drive.

You need a "when I win Tattslotto option" for the peddle, or "I will swop to peddle when my wife forgets I already have a Kayak".
No surprise with the answers so far, love it

I am a bit surprised that almost 70% of those who answered the survey went for pedal. I hadn't realised just how popular they were! Obviously those with paddle yaks are more vocal, as you can't really pick up a 70/30 ratio from the posts. Just sayin', no trying to incite a riot.

Part of the reason would be that surf launches are nearly unheard of for most yak fishers in Victoria, even to go offshore. Whereas in parts of NSW and particularly QLD a lot of the fishing focus is offshore through surf where there's a greater use of paddle yaks with many of these being glass. If we didn't have such good bay and estuary systems including routes to offshore, if the water was warmer and if there were more pelagics cruising behind the surf, then I think you wouild see greater proportion of paddle yaks used down here.
