Gozz
I glued boat carpet to the top of my pvc pipes as they were rubbing on the yaks and with any sand or dirt I could see after time it would damage the yak......no problem now. Also if I did it again I would use at least 80mm pipe.

Gozz. Good think'n man but make sure its legal.

Thats a long extention, we know it will take the weight of the yak but will VR :?

Cheers Dave.

Hmmm that did cross my mind.
I'm guessing they would make me get a engineers report.
That would cost a fortune I'm guessing.

What's holding the draw bar in? Is it going to be that gal dome head bolt I see?

I can't see VR liking that to much!

In regards to engineers. Have a look at the vicroads website, they have a pretty good guide for registering a home made trailer. I've always planned on it. Doesn't look hard!

Nice work Gozz.
It might also be worth noting that now that your trailer is more than 3m long you legally should have a set of side lights on it too, but I don't know if you would ever get pinged for it by the cops.

Edit: reflectors not lamps sorry.
There is a handy checklist of things to tick off in the light trailer pack located here:

The information is on the vicroads and transport webpage.

Here's a link of which your trailer must comply with to be registered, even though there is no 'RWC' for lights trailers. If you were pulled over by cops they could refer you to vicroads for an inspection if they think it is dangerous.

You will also find info about side lights. Pretty sure you don't need them unless it's 1800mm wide but double check.

Yep its the width not the length my trailer is 4.5 metres long and didn't have to worry about side lights.Babylon
