New to Kayak Fishing World

Post by Mr.Brightside »

Hi everyone just saying G'Day and introducing myself,

I used to hang around on one of the fishing forums for a while as MrI-Fish as I am a teacher and the kids all call me Mr. I. I do a lot of hiking and camping trips and haven't been fishing much in the last couple of years but I am super keen to get back into it so the Mrs. has bought me a $1,000 voucher for Aquayak. Haven't called them to spec up my kayak yet because I am still trying to read all your posts. So much information on here. I love fishing for redfin and trout and will often do this on foot spinning. Hoping to catch a few more table fish by getting into some new locations. Live near Lillydale Lake so plan on making myself sick practising there before I start hitting rivers, lakes and the bays.

Thanks for having me and look forward to learning as much as I can over the next few months.

Cheers

Welcome Craig, i found its really easy to fall out and get back in if you do it in da back yard, big bonus too as you don't get wet lol, yeah lots of practicing re entries as most likely the times you will need it will be in rougher conditions ;) i practiced in stages starting in about 1.5m depth and did it several ways then went to over my head and not using the bottom to help

Hi Craig, and welcome to this most excellent kayak forum.
I can happily recommend the Aquayak Ranger, as that's what I started my serious yak fishing from. I kept it when I moved on to a Hobie Revo, but my son still uses it when he fishes with me. At 3.6 metres, it's a good stable kayak, with plenty of boyancy behind you, which is great when you have an anchor out the back in choppy conditions.
By the time you throw in a few extras you can quickly use up your $1000 voucher.
But before you buy, check out what sort of price and deals they have been offering recently (especially at the boat show), as they may match a price that they offered previously, which could save you 100's.
Best wishes, Paul
