It's unfortunate that it ended so tragically for one chap and luckily for the other but I wonder how many time he'll think if only we had worn life jackets.
Safety equipment is not optional, it's events like this that can make life more difficult in a yak.
looking "cool" doesn't always work.

I agree, and as most people on this forum would find , safety is part of our hobie, oooops hobby...
When i read this on news.com i was gob smacked that they were wearing steel caps....there not cool anyway....
Sorry for the loss and hope everybody thinks twice about safety before heading out even if in a lake or river...let alone the ocean...
