G'day fellow yakkers!

How far is P2 from the Millers Road launching pad?
Please confirm.

Thanks in advance...

Cheers,

No reason to go there this season. Stay around Altona there is whiting, squid, flathead around in numbers.

IF you do decide to go it's a long way to come back. Avoid any wind with South or SE/E in it as you will have following sea coming home. I was on the boat Sunday and in close at Altona the WSW winds although 15 knots+ plus were fine. Once I got out deeper there was no protection and it chopped up. P2 will be like that.

So, the 'Stick' marker at Altona is about 2km away offshore?

the yellow cardinal marker at Altona reef? yes its 2km straight from Miller Road ramp launch. It isn't classed as "offshore" though in terms of safety requirements as its in a Bay

I've done P2 several times in the yak. It's better to go from Williamstown as it's slightly shorter and avoids boat traffic from Altona ramp, especially in the dark.

However it's not a trip to do if you don't have the necessary experience and stamina. It's also best to go with someone else. In the AI it's a breeze, but in a normal pedal/paddle yak it takes some planning, good conditions and time. In any case this is not a good time of year to head out there. The snapper would have moved further south and deeper and there's not much else out there part from micro flatties.
