I would say any 2.7 meter kayaks best design would have one to two meters added on to it
Or in other words there are no good designs at this length outside a swimming pool

Maybe not for the fishing you do but there are plenty of places where anything longer than 3m is a disadvantage.

none of the places listed are skinny or protected waters - so I stand by my post

I know what good design looks like in a big yak, but unsure what the parameters are in a shorty. Looked at a SEAK yesterday and it had a pointy undercut scooped bow. Don’t like it. Would’ve thought a ballooned bow would be the ticket for maximum time spent on top of the water. Interested to hear anyone’s thoughts on what constitutes a good design in something 2.7 max long.
Keep in mind anything with a front rocker is going to have a foot or so up front not in contact with the water and hence is effectively a shorter kayak. If you insist on a short kayak get one with some bulk behind the seat or the lack of bouyancy will risk it tipping backwards in bumpy conditions. Think tear drop plan rather symmetrical, eg look at plan view of a hobie quest/evolution 11 vs a King Kraft 11.

Cheers Keith. My point exactly with the rocker and the pointy scooped bow. Only serves to shorten the yak. Had a squizz around Anaconda at Fountain Gate today. Nothing grabbed me, but then the range is limited with the shorties. Was one that caused me to pause. The Lifetime Hydros Angler. 8’5”. Tunnel shaped hull and 765 mm wide. $240. Had a more ballooned bow and a fat stern. Kinda liked it, but seemed to have more rocker than I felt necessary. I moved on. No rush, can afford to wait till the right one bites. Yet to check out the bigger yak shops.

Cheater. I picks my days, done a fair whack of yakking over many years and if there’s trouble I’ll get out and wade back through the mud.
