Dropping in to say Hi all :wave1:
Kayak beginner here. Just purchased a Viking 2+1 and had a couple of trips launching from Blind Bight with my 10 year old son.
Conscious of safety, we didn't go too far out, and fished around the top end of Gentle Annie. Saw a seal there.
Just a question here, I'm not supposed to anchor too close to the channel markers, am I?
Looking forward to chatting with you all.

first Welcome to Vyak John - it's while since I've launched @ Blind Bight - you can anchor close to channel markers but be aware of the channel and stick the the edges - it's not brain surgery boats need the deeper water more than we do - it's not bad for boat traffic and for the most part are looking out the front , probably not for kayaks but for channel markers but at least they are looking out the front

there can be productive fishing not far from the launch I use to fish around the red channel marker no 10 on G/Annie thats about 1.25 - 1.5 km from the launch

Just watch the tides at Blind Bight ramp runs out of water around 1,4 m or so. also dont be in the wrong channel when tide gets below 1m (as per willyweather site) or you wont get across the banks. As a beginner dont anchor in the channels as it can rip along and retrieving an anchor in fast deepish water can be risky. Fishing flats over the high is easiest but you will hook a lot of banjos and rays. If you can download navionics ap on your phone so you can see where all the channels are up at the top end, and plot your position, as they wind about a fair bit
