STABILTY OF PROWLERS WITH MOTOR & BATT

Post by gummyshark »

hi,guys, just wanted to know about the effects on stabilty, when adding leccy and battery
on on your yaks mainly prowlers, have mine set up using rear rod holders
made of light metal tubing powder coated, leccy is set low right next to me using 44lb jav/walker
possibly 90 amp deep c battery not sure uses 40 amps on full throttle, battery weight is about 27 kg is
my main concern. any info would be appreciated :D

Hey Gummy,

I dont know about the prowler, i know the tempo II got some minor issues but they were designed for leecy.
My advise are

a) Make sure you get the salt water version of the watersnake.
b)They are very heavy + battery...
c)Stability is an issue if you dont balance your payload.
d) Assume you will flip the yak, can you return it back with the extra weight
e) Kill switch a must, espesically if you go into the drink and the motor is running...

From my experience i dont use the leecy any more... best power to weight ratio is still the Torqeedo...Germany engineering for ya
So the pricing steep...very steep Hope it helps
Cheers,

Hey norm. I dont have experience with leccy and battery, but i would think that extra weight down low in the hull would increase stability like a keel of sorts? Opposite to added weight on top making it more tippy, you would sit lower it the water either way.i may be wrong. But as has been said, if it tips over, it may be hard to right. Only one way to find out!

hi gummy, I have a 34lb watersnake with a shortened shaft (easy to do) and a 55amp gell cell battery almost ready to go on my OK Scrambler. I did a weight & balance test using dumbell weights and it didn't seem to make any difference, probably because the weight was low. So I am comfortable, just need to build the battery box to mount everything on.

Stay tuned, we can compare notes.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

thanks for that info guys, it all helps.
have very small outriggers mounted just before the front rod holder area.
was hoping that might help if i store the batt in the front hatch also for a little more stabilty
well i hope it does  off work at the moment, hurt my back and broke my thumb at the base
im so dying to go out, oh well it's back to reading the great posts u guys are doing :D
good idea too shorten the shaft mav
cheers gummyshark/ norm :D
