Keel Guard

Post by jaybird01 »

We have 2016 outbacks that have had a scrape on the tip of the rear keel. Has anyone bought or made a keel guard as I can see over time this could become a problem. Thanks

I think Yak Doc has probably done it before.

If you need to summon him just shine the shape of a garfish onto the clouds at night.

Best thing is to be aware of the keel as a wear point and dont drag them over hard surfaces by the nose. Its a common kayak issue and youtube is full of DIY attempts to come up with guards.

Yacdoc is in Bacchus Marsh so no where near you. He just plastic welds a "skid plate" over the top

Yes it can be a problem. I wore out the keel on the revo a few years ago. All the way through. Don't be lazy like me and use a pad when pivoting the yak onto the car. Yakdoc put a new piece on, problem fixed. Underneath the bow is getting a very thin now, probably from hitting boats ramps when coming back in.
Anyone want to buy a used revo? Only been used 5 times, promise.

Thanks for the replies. I will be more careful. Ive only had a couple of incidents where I've slid them off the trailer at a boat ramp into shallow water and they have hit the bottom so it started me thinking wotif.

I thought Yak Doc had a keg on his back, not a cape!

I just thought that if you had to shine a light in the sky to get his attention then he would be wearing a cape ;)
