Transducers don't work through the air inside ply sheets so a drastic decision was made to grind a hole in a perfectly serviceable canoe
The idea was to grind out the inner glass layer and the wood, leaving the bottom layer of glass intact...
I blame you all for this folly as I prepare the yak for Saturday...
The transducer
The victim (showing position, under seat)
The amount of area affected
The weapon of choice and some extra ammo
The first cut and sequence of removal.
The final "hole" and only two small nicks in the glass
Packaging tape on the underside ready to fill with resin
I had a few bubbles in the resin so after allowing it to settle a few minutes I gently scraped away the top of the puddle which removed the bubbles.
I will be adding a reservoir to fill with water over the resin patch to allow the transducer to work.

Re: Fitting transducer to wooden yak
Tor,... your a bad man for doing this to your lovely wooden Yak.
BUT.. I have faith in you mate, you made your yak from scratch in the first place after all.
Have you had a chance to test it yet?
Or, as you said, we may get a good laugh on Saturday!!

NO WAY TOR , SURLY NOT OMG
Your a braver man than me Gungadin (or just CrAzY), tell me you are pulling my leg, please!!!
Not that beautiful piece of crafted wood .
Why didn't you make a side mounted unit with sounder/battery and all ???????
I believe using a hair drier brings the bubbles to the surface, I don't doubt your ability but am seriously praying right now (Opps better stop that, roof may cave in ) Good luck and hope it works out.

When we say it's BIG RED SEASON, we don't mean a big red blood stain on the bay,
GET YOUR LIGHTS ON + YOUR PFD'S.
Happy Sailing Fishing and keep blowing bubbles.

YAY it worked
I don't think it helped me catch anything but...
and it seems watertight.
