Re: Sheltered spots for Saturday yakking

Saturday looks a write-off. Later Sunday afternoon looks OK, especially along the West side of WP. You could launch at Stony Point ramp and fish in close to there along the flats on the right or around the corner at Wooleys beach. High tide is around 4.15pm and I generally do well on squid with a hi...

Re: Hi all

Welcome Martin. The depths of winter aren't that inviting but there's still a few of us getting out and about.

If you've not fished of a yak much then definitely check out some of the info on here on gear, clothing techniques etc.

Awesome Mav, I can't wait to see your first drone footage of a marlin jumping around the kayak.

Re: PLB/EPIRB Placement

My PLB is in my PFD but I keep the EPIRB in a dry bag inside the hull, although readily accessible through the front hatch. If I got separated from the yak then the PLB (or VHF or phone) can be used to call for help. If there's a circumstance where I do need to use the EPIRB then I don't think havin...

Re: Altona 3/7/21 Thoughts

It's possible to get out at Altona in those winds but you need to be cautious. It can look very calm from the shore but go a few hundred metres out and the waves build up and the wind becomes a challenge. In the outfitter you may find it a struggle to make good progress if the wind catches the front...

Re: WEATHER STATIONS

If you want to know when slack water will be then look at the BOM tidal streams website for The RIP: http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/tides/#!/vic-the-rip . Slack water occurs at the same time across PPB with the RIP slack generally being the more accurate, although that can get affected by wind and ...

Re: A.I Rudder Steering Tips +

Just gotta get a decent top now to stop the waves getting inside my Kokatat pants. I looked at SLH’s Red jacket & spray top but they won’t stop water pushing in through the neck area. I might just not bother and wear my 3/4 wetsuit underneath. What do you find works for you? If you don't fancy ...

Re: A.I Rudder Steering Tips +

Would something like this saved your AKA from breaking Shane? They possibly would have. However that style of line would only be useful if I only wanted to sail and not land fish. To land fish I fold back the right amma and that style of line prevents this. It's also more fussing around with setup ...

Re: A.I Rudder Steering Tips +

Here is the "temporary" transducer mount. (it normally sits behind the main sheet line)
