Re: Sheltered spots for Saturday yakking

Yeah the forecast has gotten worse, so looks unlikely I'll be getting out there. Oh well. Guess there will always be another chance.

Sheltered spots for Saturday yakking

Due to various family matters it looks like this weekend will be the only chance to get the yak out on the water for the next few weeks, but the weather looks less than optimal. My focus is western port for now, but east side of Port Phillip would be fine too. Basically wind looks a little high and ...

Re: Whiting fishing technique

it is surprising at time just how close you find fish just out of casting reach from the beach or you have probably figured that out from snapper season on you will find the Coronet bay - reef island areas fire up there are also great whiting grounds all the way through to San remo with large sand ...

Re: Whiting fishing technique

First whiting over winter is a hit and miss affair I think as a rule you can find better size fish but less of them and by the way I in the past have done better at Balnarring over Coronet through the cooler months - my biggest LJs have also come from there Balnarring has a lot of LJs and the other...

Whiting fishing technique

I've now been to Coronet Bay twice and have sat maybe 500m off the shore amongst the sand and weed patches. First time I did okay, picking up 4 legal sized whiting, including a 40cm one. Picked up a fair few leatherjackets too, but only kept one. All was done on pre-made paternoster rigs with circle...

Re: Bugger.

Those symptoms might explain all the TP hoarding from a couple of years ago. Some people clearly thought they'd S#!^ themselves to death.

Re: Gentle Annie Channel (Western Port)

I don't know how your castable sonar will go with the tide flows and more often than not you will use the channel edges ether along the drop off or close to the bottom of the drop off thats what works most of the time I've got a fixed arm mount for it, so it basically operates as a fixed CHIRP sona...

Re: Gentle Annie Channel (Western Port)

Thanks cheater. It's interesting (but understandable) that all the charts just designate so much of that part of western port as just "mud", yet clearly there's a fair bit more structure than that. Though I gather the channels might move around a bit over time just like rivers do. I'm also...

Gentle Annie Channel (Western Port)

I've heard somewhere this can be a pretty good fishing location, but I'm not sure about the easiest way to get there. In terms of boat ramps, there's Tooradin, Blind Bight and Warneet. But I don't know their capabilities at various tides. I also have no idea how to launch or retrieve a kayak from co...

Hi all

G'day everyone. Just bought myself a Hobie Outback with the intention of fishing in Port Phillip and Westernport. This looks like one of the few forums still around with a bit of activity, so I thought I'd sign up. Can't wait to get it out on the water, despite the cold. Monday looks like conditions...
