Re: Relatively Green

On a nice morning you will find quite a few kayaks; - Altona - End of Millers Rd. There is a ramp - Werribee South (Campbells Cove) - Campbells cover road. Launch at Car park end of this road. There were 9 kayaks out Tuesday morning. A lot of these guys use bait or SP. Its usually one or the other t...

Re: G'day from WA

Welcome. Surprising your not too far from some good spots especially in off peak times. Probably only 30 minutes.

Ricketts Point is great for Snapper till Early Dec.

Seems to be plenty of Salmon around that area as well.

Parkdale/Mentone some very good King George Whiting spots in close as well.

Re: Whiting fishing technique

The rigs I use for Whiting can vary widely. Current vs Non Current areas the method is different. I fish mainly non tidal areas such as Altona, Point Cook, Werribee. I thing I do is I use a mix circles and long shank. Circles I love them but once I'm on a decent bite I will pretty much just go to a ...

Re: Weather forecasting

Fishranger is the best. They offer 2 wind charts and one is from BOM. Very accurate. What I like about fishranger is it gives you an hourly breakdown and everything is in one place. For Snapper fishing looking for rising barometer, for squid fishing cloudy conditions are great. Fish ranger give ever...

Yes you should do this year comp. Nunn's beach is also protected in a lot of conditions. I recall Lobo catching and releasing many good fish there a few years ago very close to launch. Also pinkies, whiting, salmon, squid to be had as well. Do it this season to gain the confidence for next.

Re: Altona P2

You should looking into the NSC 2020 (Portland) ran by Eoin in this group. Good practice in an organised environment and ran very well.

Target is mainly Kingfish, but there will be a large turnout of yaks. At least 30 I think.

Re: Altona P2

No reason to go there this season. Stay around Altona there is whiting, squid, flathead around in numbers. IF you do decide to go it's a long way to come back. Avoid any wind with South or SE/E in it as you will have following sea coming home. I was on the boat Sunday and in close at Altona the WSW ...

Re: Burley Techniques

Like Shane said suspended off the bottom but only a bit. In high current throwing pallets over the side is useless. Needs to be near the bottom. Also look at the rig. The rig I use for whiting north PPB would be a lot different in tidal areas. Also I never have luck sounding KGW. I just look for san...
