Smoked yakka
Went out in the stinka in westernport recently & ended up with a big school of yakka's at the back of the boat. Had a ball catching them for a while as they were decent ones (37cm) released most but kept half a doz for bait & I wanted to put some thru the smoker. Result was pretty good- just...

Re: Standard v ST v ST Turbo Fins
Yeah what Kingo said, it's all about cadence. I have about a 2kmh increase on top speed with my adventure but turbo's put a lot more strain on your hull (& legs!) at the drive well when you push them real hard so you don't want to do heaps of hours like that. What I have found is they make a cru...

Re: Transducer with silicone ??
I carefully peeled & scraped away as much as I could with a plastic blade, then sanded the surface using very fine wet & dry paper (600 or 800 grit) when I removed my Garmin 300c from my Kingy. Its been in the Adventure now for 3 years approx no problems at all. Used normal silicone (Sika Si...

Re: pizza oven
The base was then left for several weeks to cure. In the meantime I sourced some bricks for the floor & the dome. I purchased some solid clay pressed blue bricks for the floor, which I would lay on their side to give me a good 115mm thickness for a good heatbank. I had access to quite a few old ...

Re: pizza oven
Right, next installment. To explain the closing comment in my last post, the decision to cast the perlite/concrete base in one solid mass proved to be a huge, partly unnecessary undertaking. Although the insulating benefits are still there it dawned on me after I was finished that there was no reaso...

Re: pizza oven
Couple more pic's showing base ready for the concrete. What is probably not apparent in the pics is the size of the thing - its 1500mm wide x 1800mm long, and I had decided in the interests of good insulation to make the concrete 300mm thick. The normal practise is to first have a 100mm layer of nor...

Re: pizza oven
OK here goes, might have to do this in installments as it may take awhile so bear with me! First step was to construct a slab for the base to go on. Luckily I already had a slab where our spa had been, and only had to add about 500mm to one side. The slab does have to support a fair bit of weight so...

Re: pizza oven
To those that are asking, I have a copy of a book by Russell Jeavons called "Your brick oven-building it & baking in it" which was given to me a few years ago as I had planned to build one for quite awhile, and used the fairly general info in this book as a guide, varying the design a ...

Wasn't sure what section to put this under, but mods can move it somewhere more appropriate if need be. Not really yak related I know but have noticed a couple a members have expressed interest in making one so thought I'd share a couple of pic's. Taken a couple of months & some backbreaking wor...

well done on the pedal craft mate, with respect to the effect on your back - I have a prolapsed disc in my lower back & find it is fine in the hobie, in fact when it was at it's worst I felt better the day after a good pedal. Mind you handling a PA on land may not be so beneficial!
