Ouch, that looks a bit ordinary Ghurk; Hope the swelling drops soon, keep up the fluids ;)

Had a bit of a squizz for treatments mate, not too much around, it appears that the venom has not been widely studied.

Most widely quoted paper I could find is http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/d ... hap116.pdf

It apperas that 80% of people will experience a significant reduction in pain by applying water approx at 50C, downside is the pain returns as the water cools. Not as much fun as the Beer solution though.....

for those guys that haven't handled elephants take ghurkins pain as a warning - they may look easy to handle only one spike
but elephant fish unlike a shark has very slipery skin and they are hard to get a grip on

ghurkin has handled a few now so nows what they are like

most of the time unless you are taking one home to eat they dont need to come on the yak with you
the easy way to handle them is to use a landing net and leave them in the net till you unhook them if its going back just tip them back in the bay
if you are going to keep it snap the spike off before bringing it on board

...imagine being dragged through the water with a huge piece of bent metal in your mouth...!! Ellies revenge indeed... when I picked up may first one last week....took one look at the spine , said f#ck me thats NOT getting in yak with me and out it went !!!!!

one the serious note... hope your feel a bit better in the 'morn and as the venerable and erudite (no its not an adhesive) Elm says.... hospital if it gets any worse
.....you may experience slight feelings of euphoria, unstable or wobbly in the legs and being less inhibited then usual......

in which case STOP DRINKING !!!!

let us know how you go tomorrow...we expect a post to advise on your health. Take care mate.
