whitworths have a small compressed air horn as well - anyway you can only test them out - maybe a mate drive towards you in his boat and see if he hears

Re: Jarvis Walker Marine Safety Horn Blaster
Mavs got the boat, Mitch has got the horn. Half throttle in a 15 knot'er should do, let us know if you can/cannot (honk) here him (ThUd, ZinG ) Mav.
Always worth a test at least, and while I agree a visual sighting is probably better out of the two (sight/sound), combined, you on your kayak, should have an even better chance by being seen and heard.
Mitch, any idea how many db a whistle puts out as a comparison to your horn?

When we say it's BIG RED SEASON, we don't mean a big red blood stain on the bay,
GET YOUR LIGHTS ON + YOUR PFD'S.
Happy Sailing Fishing and keep blowing bubbles.
Cheers

People laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at them because they're all the same.

Yeah and then you'd have to make room for the black bloke too! Bugger that!
I have an air horn (read can of air with horn attached) that it was required kit for fishing offshore in NSW but it gets to a point of deciding how much stuff in the yak is too much? I suppose the need is directly proportional to the number of near misses you experience whilst yakking. None for me so far but then I live in an area where the local boaties are civilised......unlike many of the terrorists!
