Great Job!

It looks a bit like the rig my wife and I invented and produce, the Kayaksailor, especially the way the mast goes up and down.

I like your use of the solid forestay.

Keep up the good work!

Great product david,
when are you going to sell them in australia?
Heard nothing but good about the sails and the quality.
It would be great to see them, maybe you could organise a holiday in Australia
(with a few sails under your arm of course     )

Thanks for the feedback guys. Finally sewed the boom pocket (that should answer your question Elm) so its a matter of now sheeting the main - then i can take it out and ...sheet myself   Unfortunately I can't test until I head off to NSW (memo to self - NSW fishing license !!) so looks like trials in Mallacoota or Eden and no chance to make alterations if req !
I'm really hoping it will go OK as I'd like to be able to get out to the sth point of Eden and hunt KINGIES :yahoo: and the sail would give the extra distance.

Like the look of the kayaksailor setup esp the sail. we may need a regatta and an o/s guest or two as Mordy suggested!
As far as the sliding mast concept..with a tallish mast on rubber windsurf foot the thought was ... need to get the forward when its down and it will also lay better against the side of the yak - was a no brainer really.
Peterj/Mordy/gonefishin/swit - how are you guys going.. maybe we can have a sail at the Rickets meet on the 20th ?

Last 2 times out, wind to strong (had all fishing gear on board)and next time not enough. Bloody wind.... I haven't been able to test since I permenatly fixed all the anchor points. Very happy in how it all lays down on the deck. No issues when paddling, but I may shorten the mast an inch or 2 just to lower the center of force (I think that's the right term...)
I'll take some more pics of the final setup. The only thing I may change is the sail itself, and that's adding a clear window.

Nick, I know you haven't been able to test on the water yet but is your setup able to be pushed forward further, more out of the way of your paddle stroke. Is the rigid stay able to be shorten to allow this?

Welcome aboard David your sails are fantastic and really like the setup for the Lee-boards.

I haven't had a chance to go out of late...but I'm itching to have another go with the sail. I'm also keen to be in on a bit of a regatta at the VYak meet...I'll certainly be bringing my sail along.

...48 hrs til I head north for a week or so....

finished the rig this evening by adding the main sheet which I must admit is probably overkill having the full double blocks... its the old yachty in me- and having spent most of my childhood and teens sailing the east coast of europe from UK to Sweden I err on the side of a) caution & respect to elements b) tend to over engineer things!
the boom is in and I have taken an idea from the kayak sailer by using an elastic to pull the mast down rather than a separate halyard to pull it forward - let the bungy do it for me.

A few other by- product features have popped up too:
Camera mount on the aft fixing point when rig not in use
Camera mount on the aft fixing point when rig not in use
front-handle.jpg
the front attachmwnt allows me to quickly reattach carry handle
main-sheet.jpg
Two lines to operate - lower mast and adjust sail

worked out the sail area is about 1.48 m2 so it doesn't appear to be as big as it looks.
full-rig.jpg
Was down at Ocean grove camping with the kids on w/end so thought I'd throw a couple of pics in...
ocean-gve-1.jpg
ocean-gve-2.jpg
anyhow -- I'll be offline for the next week or so but will take plenty of pics and vid of the sailing effort....

cheers Nick

Love the setup.
Only thing i would change there paddle is instead of the jam cleats you used
Image

I would change them to cam cleats with the guide bar on it.

reason is that the jam cleats are to fiddly to get right and the cam cleats are easy to lock off and with the loop on them you will not lose the line.

Peter - agree with you entirely - I was being a bit of a tightar@e on the cleats ! the jamb cleat was $7 and they wanted $32 for the spring cleats!!! Funny the things we scrimp on when we spend hundreds on all sorts of cr@p
