Just need to test it on the water now then tidy everything up.

Re: New Sail for the Prowler
Sure is, pretty much just laid template on the trap and whent from there.
Raising the sail is quite easy, you do need to just give it a little help initially. Lays down in the exact place as the PA sail did though a little bit more bulky but should still not affect paddling.

Re: New Sail for the Prowler
Lookin good Kelly
I was wondering if it was a bit too far back for paddling.
When I launched my Mk2 the other day I noticed that I didn't have the clearence,( to paddle) just means that I get out first, engage the peddles then drop the sail.
What is the red thing at the base of the mast?
Does it swivel at all or is just straight up and down.
The advantage of being able to set your mast forward is that it out of the way, when up and when stored.
I noticed on that Kayaksailor site they kept everything in place with black webbing and clips,
could be an alternative to lashing the mast.
Well done tell us how you went.
Mordy
p.s saw some powder coated black steel rod in the curtain section at bunnnnnings comes in 2 or 3m 25mm diameter
Had a lot less flex than the aluminium equivailent

Mordy the red thing is a flexible tiller extension adaptor
With the stowage on the deck Mordy , im going to use an old fold up seat cover to put over the sail.

Re: New Sail for the Prowler
Haven't had it on the water as yet so not sure if it will affect my paddling. But the sail pretty much sits in the same spot as the PA sail did and that was fine. The new sail is a bit more bulkier so it may be a problem, time will tell. As I have not permanently mounted anything yet (the plank of wood will be replaced with aluminum) I can move the position of the mast closer to the bow which Ill test in the next couple of days (but leave the side stays where they are)Mordy wrote:Lookin good Kelly

tiller extension that uses a polymer (rubber) knuckleWhat is the red thing at the base of the mast?

Looked at that too but as it is only the outside that is coated I thought that there would be good chance of it rusting from the inside. The aluminium does flex but have some fiberglass tent poles that I can insert to make it more ridged, but I'll see how it goes first.p.s saw some powder coated black steel rod in the curtain section at bunnnnnings comes in 2 or 3m 25mm diameter

Re: New Sail for the Prowler
Thanks kelly
But where did you get the rubber thingo?
Looked like something out of a XXX shop without batteries.
Do they come in black
I was thinking of going to a 3M mast ( hoochie Mumma!!!)
hence the Curtain rod option, maybe I will have to sniff around for some 6000 series aluminium
or thicked walled.
I compared the flex of the alum vs steel and the steel came out on top.
rust would be an issue so I am sitting on my hands at the moment.
Still havent posted a review on my last sail, went well even surfed a few swells on the outback!!!
Never new the barge had it in her.
Thanks again

I got mine from Power Drive Marine in Williamstown but you can get them from places like Whitworths in the City or any place that sells sailing equipment. Black yes.
Like I said I did notice the difference but once I test it I reckon I'll be adding the fiberglass pole insert. I almost went the stainless steal tubing but the cost of that put me off at the time but it may be an option if not happy with the current setup.
I reckon will see an influx of sailing yaks on the bay soon, it really is a lot of funStill havent posted a review on my last sail, went well even surfed a few swells on the outback!!!

Re: New Sail for the Prowler
Mrs Gone Fishing ...lovya werk, might pop down to Sexyland Monday morning and see what they have on offer.
Sure they might be a bit xxy but those yachtie places aren't cheap.
If I take the sexyland option I might have to get a cover on it??
or install a LED light on it.
would also blow around in the wind a bit no doubt,
At least I could tell which way to pitch the sail
"Hey Mate, what's that on ya yak"
"It's my sail mast mount"
Jeeeez you got it all!!
It's hard enough to explain a fish finder and a bar fridge, let alone a strap on
