You are right guys...safety flag a must. even in bright coloured yaks, we sit so low in the water.
Hey Hatters I got a new idea for a gadget for your yak...
One of those ocean liners fog horns at the front of your yak.... Watch those stink boats move away in a hurry

Re: Who uses a Saftey Flag?
Sounds like a great idea!
I could face the horns backwards and use them as propulsion too!
The flag I now use is just a rectangle cut out of the back of an orange(day) safety vest from bunnings.
I also bought a yellow(night) safety vest (bunnings) that I cut the reflective strips off and then sewed onto the orange flag in an "X" on both sides.
I folded one end over slightly then sewed it in place to allow the pole off my original Huffy brand flag to fit through.
The Huffy pole has a ball on the end which stops the flag coming off the top and it also came with a little semi-circular clip that holds the bottom of the flag in place.
The flag pole is then cable tied onto my LED light pole.
I don’t fancy being collected by a less then attentive boatie so I never go yakking without it.
Also, I'm sure most of you have been out on the water and at some point, lost sight of your fishing buddy/ies. I find it much easier to keep track of other yakkers if they have a flag. Preferably as big as possible (within reason).
At some stage, once we decide on a logo for the forum, and if there is enough interest, I’d be keen to organise the production of some Vyak safety flags.

Poised on the edge of sanity.

Re: Who uses a Saftey Flag?
Always.
A bike flag (from an opencut mine where it was used on a 4wd with a gutter mount therefore has mojo of sorts ), in a 20mm PVC pipe with an end cap with a hole through it and a length of broomstick siliconed into the other end. The broomstick is just right to fit into the Hobie sail mount.

Hehe good call Mav, got to do something about it though. Already had to stand up a couple of time to make sure I'm seen.

Re: Who uses a Saftey Flag?
I had one which is an old 3 piece fibre glass tent pole cable tied to the seat and the flag is a triangle of 4mm ply painted yellow the ply is visible even if there's no wind.
However I didn't fly the flag at Safety beach as I didn't want Mitch to know where I was and the stinkers were well behaved (I get the impresion they're not always like that).
I'm going to replace the ply with something that's easier to store in transit

Hatters are you going to the big catch? I need some safety.

We need some business cards or stickers to give away for anyone who doesn't know about us!
