Got a couple of chewed up yamashitas. Anyone had a success peeling off the torn mesh and giving them a new paint job? Apart from torn mesh they are sound.

I now stick to only 3 squid jig colours, my favourite one being the Yamashita silver whiting look-a-like.
These skins are not as cheap as paint, but maybe a solution.
Otherwise wait till CA have a sale and pick up what you need there.

The cloth is meant to provide the"warm" appearance I thought. Maybe just time to spend the $10 on a new jig?

If it still takes squid just keep using it, painting the body will remove a lot of the appeal to the yamashita jigs. If it's at a point where it stops taking squid as well as it used to it's probably worth buying a new jig. Have heard of people clear coating jigs with varnish but i'm unsure of the specifics of it and it's only done to shimano jigs that have a cloth that deteriorates exceptionally fast.

Agree the shimanos lose their cloth very easily. Once a jig starts to get torn up I will super glue the cloth onto the jig and this does not affect the squid catching abilities.
