Blairgowrie winter diving:

Bit of a delayed post from a week ago. Got out for a dive during the last week of the school holidays. Headed out from Blairgowrie in the arvo to a very welcome sight of a glassed out horizon. Water was a bit chilly, however the vis was great, about 7m. About 2hrs later and id got a reasonable feed together. Nice dive to break the recent drought.

Note: the construction works being done on the Blairgowrie marina are considerably loud underwater, even from a fair distance away. Surprisingly though, it doesn't seem to be affecting the local fish activity.

Well done.
Do you tow the yak around on a float line, or anchor it and stay close?
Thanks
Dave

I anchor the kayak and then go approx 50-100m radius around it, whilst towing a float and dive flag. Works pretty well

I love the red mullet, but I find they're somewhat 'mushy' when I try to fillet them :?: maybe I need to improve my cleaning skills.. And what thickness wetsuit are you using for winter? I have a rob Allen 5mm flexi suit, but haven't been brave enough to try out the winter water with it yet, I struggle with the cold!

A good bag of fish there.

Tim

I find the red mullet fillet best once they've been chilled and firmed up a bit. Yeah I use a 5mm open cell wettie and can easily last a few hours in the water over winter
