Gday everyone,
New to the site.
Been having a fair look around for info on getting a yak to do line fishing from and spearing also. On a fairly tight budget so obviously Ebay comes to mind, a search brings up heaps of crap but one or two that seem a decent spec. So what I am really wanting to get from this post is, info from those who have or currently own an Ebay special yak.
So far I have found one at 3.7m long, which I think for PPB will be more then long enough, and has a depth of 35cm. Size of the ebay yaks seem to be there biggest con from what I can find so far, with a lot of people getting a yak that is two short for PPB or sits low in the water, like I said I reckon 3.7 should be alright considering the other more pricey yaks are around 4.1 and as for how they sit in the water, im not to fussed on getting wet as im probly going to be diving at the same time.
This was one of the 3.7m models that I had been checking out.

This one also comes with some extra crap which could be handy.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-MODEL-3- ... 2a2f8b5978
And also this one, which looks like it would sit really low...
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261644651842 ... 1423.l2649
Im pretty used to being out in the water diving, which is pretty scary at the best of times with the jet skis getting about, so fairly clued onto the water safety thing.
Thanks for the advice.
Rhys

Re: Pros and Cons of Ebay Yaks
TBH I see all these Ebay yaks advertised, but everyone you meet on the water, and on this forum DOESN"T have one. If they do it was a first yak and now relegated to backwater use only (that includes me)
I would say the short sub 3m cheapies have their place for such applications, but these longer ones are getting closer to the price of decent yaks eg Kingfisher. Too long for backwaters, and not good enough to risk your neck in on open water. In short its a lot of money to spend if end you up upgrading. They wont hold their value either
Comments I have heard on this particular style is;
Heavy for size
Rudder arrangement is flimsy /useless
Low profile equals wet ride.
Take a tip, the members here have been through this process, dont reinvent the wheel if you know what I mean.
Having said that I would like to hear someone give an honest unbiased review of one of these

Re: Pros and Cons of Ebay Yaks
Pro
- Can't think of more than one but 'price' is a signifcant pro when on a tight budget.
Cons
- May or may not have quality UV stabilsers in the plastic
- Unknow backup of warranty (one of the reasons a lot of us buy Hobie, Ocean Kayak, etc is their reputation for supporting their product)
- Can you test paddle?
Any kayak that gets you on the water fishing is a good kayak. An eBay yak is a reasonable way to start. However, you might also like to consider a 2nd hand 'brand' kayak. Often these come well kitted out for fishing and leave you with nothing else to spend.
