So having fun damaging other peoples property is fine? Do you have a problem if I slam my bullbar into your car door? Of course you do. :wtf:

Kick your footy in the park. Do it in the street and damage my property you should pay. Be responsible for their actions or be responsible for the damage they do. Why should my choice to have nice things not matter just because your kids want to have 'fun'? Isn't that part of being a responsible parent?
Take another +1 or is it 2 now.
One of the problems today is panelbeaters cost a fortune, wifes car incurred the smallest of dings in the rear side panel, I thought it was a $100 fix but the panel beater informed us that because of the complexities inside the panel and all the curves he replace the side of the car, cost $5k, fortunately the leaver of dents left his card under the wiper and we claimed against his insurer.
I thought he was having a joke at our expense but found out that new cars can be difficult to remove dents from and this is common practice, so what looks like a minor ding can be a months pay or 10 years pocket money.

I really can't see the issue here. Parents should be responsible for the actions of their children. Don't like that then don't have kids.

Respect for other peoples space and property is the parents responsibility to teach and to enforce. Likewise accountability for damage is their responsibility as well.

" The Street" is not the place we should be forcing our kids to play on anyway.....too much traffic too many wierdo's and little grass. Whats wrong with them using the back yard?....dont have one I hear you say....well get off your ass, be a responsible parent and ensure they get the opportunity...too many parents and dog owners think that having kids stops being their responsibility when they go to kinder or school, somehow it becomes "someone elses problem" Same with dogs most owners do not teach their dogs anything other than toilet training......few do socialising dogs and fewer still manners, which is understandable...If the parent thinks its their inherant RIGHT to do what they like, where they like how in hell will they be able to pass basic skills to their kids.

Same dumb asses then bitch at the law when their kids are delinquent and end up in trouble.
As for dog walking most Councils have requirement for owners to carry a poo baggie , some provide them.

There are just too many dogs around not to have such a requirement. Again same folks the bitch about having to pick up their dogs droppings will be on the local Councils back when the slip on a pile every second or third step along a pavement or grassy area in a park!!.

Sadly our behaviours need to change due to the sheer nomber of people about....as we have more people and more cars and bikes so each person walking has less space around them and there is more chance for othets to intrude in our space..

Means we have to be just that bit community smart and be a lot more aware of our actions.

My kids were brought up in Williamstown and played in the back yard. We just pulled the place down and two houses are going up in its place...there will no longer be a back yard.....sign of the times!

I take it you don't have kids (if you do, then my mistake) :-)

I do not. We have active lives and a business that consumes far too much time to be good responsible parents. If/when that changes then we will reconsider.

I assume you do have kids if you don't think parents should be responsible for their childrens actions or damages? :wtf:

And Andrew, I too lamet the loss of backyards but then again we bought further out to have a large backyard should we decide to have kids. We could have bought in Carnegie or Caulfield if we didnt care about yards. To be fair, many of these new estates have excellent parks and bicycle paths with sporting facilities as well. Helps to make up for the smaller block sizes that alot of families settle on.

Used to be the same in the UK in the 50-60's, council houses for those that couldn't afford to buy, small backyard but allotments provided for growing veges.
I don't blame the parents entirely for the upbringing of the kids, the social engineers have a lot to answer for by implementing the right way to raise a child even though most were single and never had any, they advocated no discipline as it upset them, no playing in dirt as it carries diseases, the list goes on and we wind up with kids running riot and parents not legally able to stop them and if they do they slink off to a refuge to get away from cruel parents then you have the media banging on your door.
Some kids are just plain bad and is no reflection on the parents but social workers should be shot with a ball of their own s***.
We are on acreage as the girls loved horses and still do, trust me they are cheaper than drugs although probably as addictive, at present poor dad is dipping his hands into his wallet (again) putting in an arena, they bought me a bottle of single malt as a thankyou, maybe I should buy a case of single malt and let them pay for the arena, I know who would be in front.
Our dogs are trained, 2 german shepherds to keep undesirables out at night and chase off the foxes, they stay within the boundaries and are friendly when we are home but don't come in at night unannounced.
Did I mention I don't like social workers.

We moved up here for the same reason, give the kids an alternative. Has cost us heaps but both kids turned out just fine.
Not all can do that for many reasons. However, no point in coming here and calling that the solution, Wife and I devoted 100% of the time we were not at work to the kids. WE taught them values they built on that.
Our dogs are the same....they too have values and an understanding of manners, they fear nothing and no one
Outside they are next to us out of duty not fear......that too takes time.......time away from things others refuse to give up their time to......is it selfishness....lack of knowledge, plain ignorance...who knows, not for me to pass judgement...all I can say it made life hassle free once done.

i should have mentioned that my dog is a foul tempered Chinese Crested with a bad attitude, he is not selective, he hates everyone and bites, no amount of training fixes it so I just keep him on a short leash when anyone is around.
Yes, not everyone can escape to the ideal place but we planned it this way and as I work for the worlds worst boss (me) I can be selective about whenb and where I work and how much I bring in.
I am semi retired working 4 days straight a fortnight, took a while to get to that but it also gave me time at home with the kids when they where at school.
Must be doing something wrong as the eldest is still at home albeit a medical student so can't afford to live closer to uni with her limited income, she also looks after the horses and picks up the feed for them and has been known to do her own washing on occasion.
