Nice work on the trailer.
I'm also building a trailer to carry a couple of of yaks 3.5m x 1.80, I'm placing white reflectors on the front, amber halfway down the side (edge of the gaurd) and red one's on
the rear. My understanding of the VSB1 is that presence (lights/lamps) must be fitted if the trailer is more than 1600mm wide and over 4m or over 1800mm wide. (13.1 of the VSB1)

Yeah the guy registering mine told me the same thing that he didn't need to see it, but that it was my responsibility to ensure that the trailer was compliant. That's why you sign the checklist as part of the light trailer package. It covers them and puts the blame on you if you get pulled over by the police.

Thanks for the info.
Think I'm going to have to get my self a set of reflectors as well.
Mine's not registered as it's been a small basic 6x4 but now that I've done some major work to the front area I think it's a must.

You don't wont to get pulled over by the cops, I'll be going a few long distance trips so I need to make sure all is legal.

Hmmm, mine might not be legal, i've got reflectors but not side lights, I only read the width bit. Nope just reread it, only needs reflectors if over 3meters long.
Here's the check list given when you register the trailer.

Checklist
Brake lights in working order
If there are two axles or more, a braking system is installed
Left and right-side direction indicator lights in working order
Left and right tail lights in working order
At least one number plate light in working order
At least one safety chain
Mud guards over each wheel
Length does not exceed 12.5 metres (or 12.2 metres for a pig trailer)
Width does not exceed 2.5 metres
Rear overhang does not exceed 3.7 metres
Two white reflectors fitted to the front of the trailer
Two red reflectors fitted to the back of the trailer
One side reflector on each side (if length is more than 3 metres, every 3 metres)

If width is over 2.1 metres, white and red clearance lights fitted on the widest points of the trailer
Tyres fitted are in a roadworthy condition and meet relevant load requirements
Vehicle plate affixed to trailer
Certification statement clearly noted on vehicle plate

I believe if the rear lights fitted are of the aproprate ADR you don't have to add the extra reflectors as they are incorperated into the
light lens, a mistake I've made and have now added 2 red reflectors.

Cheap lights, cheap for a reason.. lol

I've just ordered red white and amber reflectors.
I probably don't need them but better to be safe then sorry.
My trailer is a normal 6 x 4 when the draw bar is in but when it's extended it can be as long as 4.7mtrs.
