I have removed the locks off the ends and I have also found that a solid fish can pull them down irrespective of how tight I make them but I have seen somewhere that putting a grip off a cricket bat on the ram ball stops this,although I haven't gotten around to it yet.

You can also roughthem up with sandpaper... Works well...
