Fibreglass Hobie?

Post by Yuz »

I may well be going nuts BUT I've been thinking of replicating the Outback in fibreglass :o
I've had some experience with glass rebuilding an old stinker, so... I think it's doable, esp if mirage drive clamps/fittings can be obtained as spare parts... hmmmmmmmmm whaddoyathink?
Any legal/copyright issues?

That's definitely not nuts - It's an awesome idea! If you can make a mould then you could run off a few 'copies'!

How about making a Revo or Adventure instead, since they'd be great in glass?

One thing about plastic yaks that is a constant niggle is the bl**dy weight of the things!

My dream is to have an AI made completely from carbon-fibre! :-)

If you have the skills and gear needed, go for it!

Mike.

My first thought is...are you willing to loose everything you own. American companies like to defend there copyright big time.
Why not just design your own, your design could have all the good bits from various yaks and end up with the perfect yak.
Cheers Gary...

I don't think they'd be hunting you down over a project like this...

I think quite the opposite, Hobie have a very good design that has had many hours of development and think because of the money they inject into service etc as well that they would go tooth and nail to protect there design copyright. I would probably try to purchase a drive and the click and go units then design my own hull shape to fit them to.

Certainly a glass yak would be nice.
