Hi from Kybosh

Post by Kybosh »

Hi all. I actually joined some time ago and although I've been lurking, I only now got around to posting. Most of my fishing for the last few decades has been with the fly but I bought an outback early this year and am attempting to recover my old spin and trolling skills. Havent mastered the art of flycasting from the yak yet. I spent some time at Tuross head after I bought the yak and had a ball on the salmon (best=66cm) whiting and flatties. Great fun. I'm looking forward to getting out on the bay soon, but I'm a bit shy of the winter. See you soon on the water.
Cheers, John

Welcome aboard Kybosh

Good choice of yak ;) .

My old man keeps telling me to get up to Tuross Heads might have to think about it seriously now. A 66cm salmon is a nice fish. Was it caught on fly?

Welcome aboard Kybosh.

Winter is still a good time to yak.
There will still be plenty of nice flat days to go out, just rug up.
I find thermals are awesome for the really cold days.

Keep moving and you will stay warm, salmon are in town and they keep the blood pumping!

I second getting thermals, and a good water proof/wind proof coat that will break the wind. I found one at Anaconda for around $50 a while back.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Rollie, the salmon was caught on a 15gm chrome slice... towed the yak around for 15 minutes. Take your old man's advice, Tuross is terrific. The lake had been closed for about 5 years and only opened following heavy rain, a couple of weeks befor we arrived. The fishing was legendary. As for winter, I'm looking at sharkskins.
