G'Day from Chillihilli

Post by chillihilli »

Hi All, just thought I'd register and say Hi. I was just thinking how AKFF was lacking in local content and came across this forum. Good to see the Melbourne Yakking scene is still alive and well.

I live in Essendon and have returned to Yak fishing after a couple of years out. Locally I tend to fish Altona, but also don't mind the drive to McCrae, Rosebud. I'm a big fan of squid, but have never caught it off the yak and only ever caught it out of Queenscliff.

I have also been yak diving for years, and used to go out regularly on the yak for my feed of scallops.

Looking forward to catching up with some like-minded individuals.

Cheers Pete.

Hey Pete,
Welcome back to kayak fishing!
Not sure about your side of the bay but here, round Mornington, there are plenty of squid about.
Take a jig next time you go out, you may be pleasantly surprised ;)

Cheers

Welcome aboard Chillihilli, fellow yak fisherman and scuba diver. We did a yak dive trip off Rye a while ago for some scallops, almost time to go again. Keep an eye on the posts.

Great stuff, as I said "like minded individuals"!

Here is some pics from a little while ago. 3 yaks at McCrae yacht club - Mine is the Swing on the right - ready to go diving (and dangle a line on the way).

And this is the best of both worlds. Got my PB flatty on the way in (caught in knee deep water on a lure at McCrae). Sorry for the crap wet-lens shot.

Can't wait to get back out. Better check if my tanks are full.

I can feel a dive coming on :P , Welcome to the forum Chillihilli and good to see another diver amongst us. Did you do a Reef, the Hurricane or just do a scallop dive of McRae ?

Did you get any scallops ?

Are you yaking mate's divers to ?

Hope to catch up some time, fish and a dive sounds good.

Hi Elm,

The mates on that trip were Squidder and Hoit from AKFF. We didn't hit the right spot on that occasion and only came up with about 30 scallops. I have been diving that area for years and never found the Hurricane. That said never really tried in earnest. I do regularly bag out in the area. I would like to explore some of the deep gutters closer to Rye, rather than paddling out to the channel as I have done in the past.

I'll get the tanks checked and post up a trip soon enough.. I'm getting itchy.

We launched at Tyrone, paddled 1.5 k's - tied off to the pole and bagged out in about 20min, but the little buggers move around a bit. I will do some recon before the next trip.
