floating safety line

just a thought...when anchored in current would it be good to have a floating safety line out the back of your yak in case you do go for a swim...??

Nice graphics kads

Most anchor up from the rear and set lines down current past the bow. Only issues I could see is the possibility of a fighting fish tangling fishing line with safety line.
Youd also need to bring the line in whenever you moved so it didn't foul your anchor or mirage drive on a hobie. No reason it wouldn't work while on a drift though.

I like how you kept your hat on even after falling in! :-)

It's a reasonable Idea, however, you may still not be able to reach it if it's being blow about by the wind, or if you fall away from the side of the yak.

A tether is still the best option, I reckon.

Sound good but the effort involved with tangles
I wouldn't use it

I'd say a retractable tether attached to you/life jacket would be the neater solution, one less thing hanging off to tangle in, but then the tether has the added risk of tangling and wrapping you if you roll and go the wrong way or get unlucky. Which means you need a knife on you to clear any tangles, but then you need it to have a blunt point so you don't cut yourself... ah kayak safety, never too much.

certainly has some potential and I know i've eyed off my drift chute rope a few times thinking if I ever go over at least I can probably make a grab for that on the way past...
