You've got to be careful with any sharp blade, I guess...
I'm opting for one of these (the pointy one):
http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-30/0240 ... Knife.html
Pretty compact and easy to attach to a PFD strap. I'll be using it as a general-purpose knife, as well a safety/line-cutter.
At only $22 plus postage, it should be worth it...
Mike.

Re: Safety under sail
Hi Mingle, make some inquiries about the pouch and it's holding capabilities. When at the dive shop, the hardest thing to getting a good knife, was getting a good pouch. One that would hold it and not lose it at the slightest knock.
Not sure what you use your knife's for but for shucking, I find chisel points best.
It looks very similar to this one and I know they were also not so good in the pouch department and easily fell out, it would pay to ask if you can return the knife if the pouch is not good enough.
I know this one is sold under several brands with about 5 different coloured handles, and while the blade etc is good, they were always lost due to the pouch.
Same this one, excellent knife, crap pouch;
Same this one, also generic and can be found under a different brand.
Sadly most of the better ones were the more expensive ones, if you know someone who can make a pouch out of webbing you may be better buying one of the cheap knifes and then put it in a webbing pouch.

When we say it's BIG RED SEASON, we don't mean a big red blood stain on the bay,
GET YOUR LIGHTS ON + YOUR PFD'S.
Happy Sailing Fishing and keep blowing bubbles.
