Sunglasses

Post by peatop »

Guys, i wear multi focals full time and bought a pair of clip on shades but i find they aren't that good for blocking the glare enough to see into the water enough, i looked into getting contacts and using proper fishing glasses but just wondered what the rest of you have done to solve this issue?

I also wear bifocals and they have a magnetic sunglass that fits on the front, as they come as a set the sunnies when attached fit flush with the frame and look like ordinary sunnies, they are polarised.
My frames are ULTEM 6080.

Alternatively you can get prescription fishing glasses, a friend of mine owns Spotters and they do prescription in any style.

I had prescription polarised sunglasses and they are expensive.
Then my script changed and the sunnies were all but useless.
I wasn't going to spend that amount of money again only to have my script change again in the future.

Then I found Jonathan Paul Fitovers. Got mine from the Cancer Council. They're great.

These sound good, although one thing that worries me, is how does it feel to have another pair sitting on your nose and ears?

I've been wearing these since 2012 without issue. I posted about them at the time in the "Bought Something New" thread.
I went to the Cancer Council so I could try them on first and get the right shape to go over my frame.

Yah i looked them up last night and rang a local optometrist today who have the cheaper cancer council ones so i will go for a visit and try them on for fit and more importantly comfort ;)

I wear multifocal contact lenses when kayaking. The type you wear for a day and then toss. They work really well. As a backup on the longer trips I carry a spare set of glasses in a case which I vacuum seal to waterproof it. The Portland submarine trip was a good test of the cases waterproofness which it passed. Also in the case is sealed hand wipes and a spare set of contact lenses.

I wear prescription multifocal glasses. I get specsavers 2 for 1 deal when I get a new prescription.
1st pair are prescription polarised sunglasses that I wear on the yak or when driving in glarey conditions.
2nd pair are prescription photo chromatic that are normal indoors (or behind windows in a car) and darken to reduce glare in outdoors bright sunlight.
Unfortunately you can't get polarised and photo chromatic on the same lens with the 2 for 1 deal.

Thanks for the responses so far guys, they have given me further options to think about, one of the issues I've found wearing multifocals, is at night it's often difficult to focus in low light as the glasses are at the wrong angle for the emitted light, eg: tying a knot or threading a hook.

I did look at getting multifocal contacts but as i didn't receive a reminder phone call about the test contacts arriving forgot all about them till recently, after a visit to a more convenient optometrist to look at the over sunglasses I've arranged another eye test for contacts, i will get the over sunglasses as after trying them on i was happy with the comfort which was my main concern with them. At least with them and contacts i will have a choice ;)

mine are photochromatic which is why Ihave the magnetic additional front lens, they look no different when attached.
I don't know who told you that photochromatic and polarised are not available in the same lens as I HAVE HAD them for many pairs of glasses in the past.
