Hi there kayaks finally got me an outback today and was just wondering a few things.
1 - I have the kayak stored in the garage but still the sun can hit it through the window. Will bed sheets covering the yak do fine to protect it against the light?
2 - what protectants aside from the hobie one to people use on their plastics?
thanks

Re: Yak protectants
A bit of squid ink and western port mud is usually all the protection required
Nah I think some bed sheets or a tarp etc should keep the UV off and a good wash with fresh water after each trip will keep the rust and and smell at bay
A bit like a new car - you wash it religiously for the first few months then it slowly drops off to a quick spray with the hose lol
Whatever you use dont use any chemical based products that might eat away at the plastics.

Flip it upside down if you are concerned about fading in the light.

Re: Yak protectants
I've used WD40 on my kayaks for years after reading an article online about its ability to "nourish" plastics. It's worked really well for me - when I did a warranty changeover of my 2011 PA earlier this year one of the guys at SLH said that the hull "looks brand new".
I find that it keeps the plastic looking really fresh, there's none of the milky tint on the surface that comes up after accumulated exposure to UV.

cant beat aerospace 303 protectant - car detailers swear by it for plastics.

If you have any railblazas, keep any sprays away from the mounts, it destroys the locking slides.
