decent buy or not

Post by manicmunro »

Hi guys,
As a lot of other people, I am looking to pop my cherry on kayak fishing. I am in Geelong and plan on mainly going in the bay, and possibly up on the murray when camping. I have fished plenty from boats and bank both freshwater and salt. Had to sell my boat when the kidlets came along, but always missed being on the water. SSSooooo, this is a good compromise with she who must be obeyed. I spied this on gumtree tonight and thought I would ask he people in the know!! Good buy, or not.

The Quest is a fantastic paddle Yak that a lot of people overlook. It's also a great starting point for getting into yak fishing. It's pretty stable, plenty of storage space and more than capable for what you're proposing.

With this one have a look for any damage to scuppers or deep grooves. The DIY rudder doesn't look very good and should be replaced with a genuine Hobie one. Price is up for negotiation so it could be an even better deal.

Also che k out the tarpon that ratfish has advertised on here today, its also an excellent yak.

Agree with Shane. The rudder is not hobie one, though not everyone needs a rudder. A Hobie one would be $200 plus. That looks like the standard Hobie paddle which is not the same as a lightweight carbon one, but thats ok as they are $300 plus. Hobie paddle is fine as a starter.

I would have no qualms about that as a good starting set up. You will love the accessible front hatch

Thanks for the feedback!! I went and had a look at the aquayak ranger today, and I think that will be the way I will go. They were great in store, and will get all the gear I need to get started there too......
