Night Snorkel - Fishies Beach Tuesday 22/7
Putting up a thread just in case anyone else is interested. Yakhanger and I are planning a night snorkel tomorrow night at Fishies Beach Mornington. Subject to confirmation from Merv, we will try and hit the water at 6.30 (depending on Merv's time availability), perhaps 6 if he is free. Probably do somewhere between 1 & 2 hours in the water. If you are interested in a night snorkel join in. The water viz seems to have cleared up a fair bit.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

All survived, fish were scarce but it was a pleasant way to spend the evening. Time to research where the fish are.

Was an enjoyable way to spend the evening.
We met at the car park at 6:00pm and it was about 8:00pm after the dive when we were packing our cars to head home.
The water at 12 degrees was warmer than the outside air temp which was about 8 degrees.
Plenty of Garfish to be seen at the start, saw a couple of small Rays and Merv had his torch & spear lined up on a nice whiting but it took off when it saw the barbs pointing at him.
Was my first time tagging along with spear fishos at night.
Learnt a lot about spear fishing gear & the extra stuff fishos carry & drag behind them.
Learnt how dull my dive light is compared to others. Time for an upgrade.
I went to La Porchetta for Pizza after as it was the only shop still open on main St Mornington.
Thanks Mav & Merv was good to meet up with you.

Merv's (Eddies;) torch was like having one of the MCG light towers wasn't it.
Only the one Flounder & crab and saw a good size Goat Fish, but let it swim away, or in actual fact it just sat there as I touched it - then I swam away, very cool.

Yes it was a great way to spend the evening, my first time at night and with the gun, I too learnt a lot, like secure your float to your person properly so it doesn't float away and you spend half the night looking for it , and know how to operate your spear gun so when you see a nice big 'ting you will be able to shoot it . There were lots of Gar around and some big one's too, maybe time for a clinic Ghurkin . Thanks for the call Mav and good to meet you Jacko can't wait for the next one.
