Just had a mate send me this link as he is gearing up for Portland. 10inch sp's for about half the price of Z-mans might be of interest to some.

Looks good, are they sold as a two pack for $10, or individually?

Looks like 2 in the pack for $10 or $16 with a 6/0 worm hook. For comparison the zman heroz cost around $25 for a pack of 3.Jordo wrote:Looks good, are they sold as a two pack for $10, or individually?

Re: Cheaper soft plastics for Kingies
I'm a little unsure of what it would be like for these large plastics but from experience with the smaller stuff zmans last more than twice as long as every other plastic I've given a run so far, especially when teeth or hard hits are involved, so they might work out cheaper in the long run.
As a side note I'm currently half way through the gear up for kings and was wondering if anyone had done any good on them using smaller plastics (4-7") and if there was any colour preference among vyakers.
Cheers Alex

Re: Cheaper soft plastics for Kingies
When I was a kid we'd use anything in a fusilier, Qantas or chartreuse/green. All on hard bodied like the old maulers which have been replaced by the halco 130 these days. Regardless, soft or hard I'd still be looking for those colours (white instead of Qantas on soft plastics though)
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.

The white Zman Heroz were a standout plastic last season. Others were white and pink sluggos, 9" and above. Some shorter plastics like the 145mm Squidgy flick baits in mackerel also did well as they have plenty of action.
Also don't forget stick baits. I'm about to start making a few including some more garfish imitations and other larger models.

Re: Cheaper soft plastics for Kingies
They look great but given my experiences with fishing for kingies last summer I know nothing about catching them so keeping that in mind I wonder if the fact that Zmans float is part of what makes them attractive to kingies? If you've got your jig head balanced right they'd sink very slowly and almost suspend with a bit of current and a twitch.

Re: Cheaper soft plastics for Kingies
My list so far is:
Zman heroz (proven record last year)
Zman mag swimz (the slim swimz have been fantastic on small salmon)
Zman trick swimz (for salmon and I believe the tuna were hitting smaller sps last year)
Zman swimmerz 4" and 6" (just in case they are hitting smaller stuff)
Rapala long cast shallow 12 & 14
Rapala long cast 12 & 14
Halco c-gar
Halco roosta pop
Halco skim stick
Metal lures (both jigging and casting)
Anything else that takes my fancy at a decent price point.
