Malibu stealth 9 should I buy??????!!

Post by Jamie444 »

Hi all, just need some advice.

I am trying to buy a second kayak, I already have a cheap eBay 3m yak it seems to be ok for a start.

I now need another one as the misses has decided she likes a paddle too.

I have been offered a Malibu stealth 9 kitted up with garmin color sounder rod holders etc.

He was asking $1000 but said he would take $700.

I know it's no hobie but do you guys think it will be a good buy?

Looking for something to get out squiding etc and chase some gummys etc with you guys over LL and JJ way.

Any advice would be good.

Thanks. Jamie

The stealths the same body as the mini x with a different hatch fit out, haven't really fished Lang Lang etc but from the reports you've got a fair tide run going there, the stealth isn't really made for covering distance and is a bit of a pig across wind and tide given its high sideboards. Would really depend on the distance your putting in.

Re: **HELP** Malibu stealth 9 worth a buy?

$700 seems alright, I like the look of them alot.
From memory they were $999rrp at bcf, but no longer on their website so can not check.

Take into account a 2-300 for a sounder (assuming it's just a 300c), battery, and a few extra rod holders it's not bad

Does it include a seat, trolley, paddle etc?

For what it's worth, I just picked up a mini x which as mentioned is identical to the Stealth with a different hatch layout. I was about to purchase a stealth 9 before I got the mini x and the reason I didn't was because it felt heavier to me and the hatch layout didn't feel practical as the centre hatches fall under your thighs but at that price I reckon it's a steal.

Go for it mate... My 2 cents

Cheers mate, even though the hatches are under your thighs it's the best storage I have seen in a small yak.

I will eventually get an outback but I think bang for buck the stealth 9 is good.

And can fit our 2 yaks in our 6x4 trailer if we stick to another small one for now.

I agree, small price to pay for so much storage. I reckon it's a great buy mate, well done. Now just need to find another one for the Mrs and you're set.

For me it's easy, my wife is not into talking shed rather jump in my boat so just one set of roof racks Lol.

Did you end up getting it the Stealth?

Top price for a stealth 9.
I have the ebay copy of the steath 9 / mini x and for rivers and bays on nice days they are great.
I've had it in some pretty rough chop just stuffing around at a surf beach and although I got swamped by huge waves i never went over just got really wet.

The thing is why not put that $700 towards the outback.
I have my little yak sitting around doing nothing cause i'm always taking the outback out.

It depends what you want I guess.

For me, I got the mini x because it was easy to handle on my own, I wanted something light. If I enjoy yak fishing I'd maybe look at something like an OK Prowler or outback but that's a substantially larger investment than $700
