Outback Trailer Project

Post by Trutta »

When I first started yak fishing I was mainly doing day trips as I progressed I started doing more trips that where two or more days long. The only problem with this was each time I wanted to take the yak out of the water, even if just for a short time (maybe just to go and have some lunch). It meant unloading everything out of the Outback then putting it upside down ontop of the Nissan only to have to go through the whole unloading setup again. I soon become sick of this. A trailer was needed.
After much searching for a trailer that would service my needs and not being able to find anything. Most trailers I saw were either to light or just a jacked up boat trailers. I decided that I would make my own. What followed was a three month project that seemed to through up new challenges at every chance. There was many design changes, Vic Roads provided their own challenges, as soon as you tell them that you made the trailer yourself they for some reason instantly think you stole it (maybe its just the way I look) & a huge hold up with the galvanising (Not the galvanisers fault).
Despite all this the trailer is finished and I'm looking forward to getting on the water. The rack is spaced to take the Hobie PA supports so one day if I upgrade it should slip straight on. With the box I can leave all the yakking gear in the trailer, all I will have to do is grab the rods and lures and be off fishing. There is room to sit an esky or tie down a bit of camping gear. And now when the wife wants to go holidaying up the coast with the kids I might just be able to hook the trailer behind the family car. To keep the kids entertained when we get there of course. The trailer in the end cost more than the Outback. The only good thing about taking so long to build was the wife did not see the money disappearing out of the account in one big hit.

That is very cool mate. Very practical and will carry everything you need. Storing everything on the trailer ensures you don't forget anything
cheers

Very nice  you might have to put a patent on it though, I can see the market being flooded by yak trailers with a striking resemblence to yours   (not by me I'm not that talented).

I couldnt think of anything witty or funny to say and didnt really want to post my PB fish from the yak cause all I manage to get are toadies so I thought I'd take the time to fill in the blank space and say pretty much absolutely nothing and annoy every-one who has taken the time to read this.
