Re: Various Kayak Trailers
Thanks for reviving this thread Babylon your original trailer is pretty much the kind of thing I am looking for .Looks like there are plenty of options out there! I suppose these are main criteria I am looking for;
- Low Cost (which is a given for most of us although I don't want to sacrifice reliability/functionaly)
- Ability to carry two outbacks if SWMBO wants to tag along
- Lockable storage of gear
- Relatively small trailer (6x4) as I only have a single garage to store it in
Looks like I've got a bit of homework to do. Hopefully I can find something to suit

Re: Various Kayak Trailers
Here's some photo overload of my trailer.
Modified Dunbier jetski trailer with two lockable boxes, one insulated for use as a cool box if required. It can carry three yaks with the current set-up, with the 3rd yak being anything other than a PA loaded sideways onto the supports on the opposite side of the locked box. It has cradles for the top of the 'A" frame as well as rod holders. The front box is also wired with a 12v battery for any 12v accessories i.e., night light, pressure washer etc.

Re: Various Kayak Trailers
AK&S are doing a new trailer. A couple of the guys are using them already.
I have no idea of the pricing, so if you're interested you'll have to call the store and enquire.

Thanks for the pics Rhino. Those trailers look solidly built thats for sure. Might have to give AK&S a bell.
Anyway I better get my mind out of fishing and get back to work...a very difficult task indeed.

Here's mine..I used parts from an old 6x4 then just made up the frame. I still have to add boxes for extra storage on the side and a rack above to fit another yak on top

Re: Various Kayak Trailers
Thanks for the pics Merv. By the looks of it a lot of the fellas have taken the DIY approach which is somewhat attractive considering how cheap trailer components are. I've got a bit of a design in my head which I hope to get onto paper, but as a starting point can anyone point me in the right direction in regards to base frame dimensions? In terms of width i was thinking 1.5m (0.9m for the width of an outback + 0.5m for the width of a gear box) however length I am not sure as I see on the Vic Roads website no overhang is allowed. What have others done in respect to this?
