PA 12 trailer noisy Hitch

Post by Hvalross »

Time to move this to its own thread.

This is my set up. The wheels are fixed in position, not movable.
As you can see the wheels are pretty well back, and still the entire rig is so light on the ball that it is a joy to move around. Hang it off my car and hit the road and it sounds as if it will be bumping off the ball.....damn irritating. As I have said elsewhere adjusting the play via the hitch adjustment bolt lifts the hitch to the point where the Anti-theft shackle will not fit, this is driving me nuts.

I can move the PA right forward almost over the hitch, and it has no effect, and I dont want to be loading up the Yak to add weight.

This is what I use on my work trailer.

Ball weight is ideal loaded but too light when empty. No rattles because there is no movement.

Have you checked the ball size?

I have had a tow ball measure way undersized before with it sounds like the same issue, or maybe the whole tounge insert it loose, some have a bolt and locking nut to adjust the free play on the side.

As said check towball size 50mm is standard. Also you can adjust the slack with the but and bolt at the front of the coupling.

That is the one I tried first, needs so much adjusment the coupling anti theft device cant close because the bar is pushes so high

I will however recheck ball and coupling , thought about it but didn't get off my ass an check, it makes sense.
Everything else is firm and tight so that is where the issue is..

THANKS
