If you buy a tube of ultrasound gel from ebay and use it in place of the water you won't have to refill the well at all.

Good idea, I might even find out my kayak is pregnant :o . My only concern with the gel is that it is slippery and the transducer would slip out when transporting upside down on the trailer. I once tried Glycerine instead of water and it seeped past the transducer and it slipped out, so after a slimy clean up back to water, and there's a fair bit of it around in the kayak when needed. But I might keep it in mind as the gel is thicker than Glycerine  .
