Beginner spots in port Phillip Bay
Whats a good spot to fish on the east side of the bay that would give me access to Pinky snapper, without travelling to far from shore, ideally under .5k, 1K at the most. New to the bay, but have done some kayaking in white water before so fairly confident. Will be checking the weather, preparing well and be ready to pull the pin if the weather looks like turning. Thinking about Ricketts Point/Patterson River area?

Remember any sort of west wind can get uncomfortable. Rickets (launch from carpack) is a safe launch and even when blowing it is a good landing. However it is probably about 500m to the edge of the marine park. You can fish just on the outside of this and it gets to about 7m straight away. Alternatively launch from parkdale beach, 200m and you are onto some good spots (whiting, pinkies, squid) Good protection from wind (besides W,SW,NW).

Thanks, looking forward to getting on the water and chasing some fish. Might go Parkdale Beach first up.

Parkdale is great but can be a hard walk up the hill to the car. Alternatively launch from the creek from Mordialloc just next to the pier. Even safer launch and don't have to go far out. So many good choices around here.
