Evening all,
I've just purchased a cooper anchor red for my 3m kayak. Where's the best place to buy chain by the meter, from what I've read I need 1.2m. Looking at BCF and rays they to sell it in bigger and more expensive amounts. Cheers

I've bought my last couple of lengths at Whitworths. They have a range of sizes and types they can cut to length.

I bought my stainless steel chain at Bunnings for my cooper.
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.

Brett likes shiny bling.Wind Waker wrote:I bought my stainless steel chain at Bunnings for my cooper.
How long and how heavy depends on where you are likely to be fishing. If you have a 3m yak and a cooper anchor you wouldn't be looking at some of the harsher conditions.
I actually have two set ups, first a 700gm grapnel with short length of lighter chain for low tide PPB. Second one with longer heavier chain with an interchangeable 1.5/2.5kg grapnels. Big heavy set ups are a pain if you dont need them.

I do. Its why I want the stainless pedal cranks as well. Also have a thing for bright green. Used it cor stickers and shirts. Love my multi coloyred braid also. It serves a purpose but damn it looks fine as well. Chartreuse braid is the fall back. Bright and shiny
Oh and I don't like the way the rough gal hurts my delicate office hands either... nah not really. I love the bling of stainless and when you only need a metre who really cares if it cost $10 more.
The better question is why wouldn't you want nice toys?

The more colourful the language when you realize that its just not coming free and you are going to have to cut the rope.

Its loosing tge dyneema that makes yoy cry then. I have a generous bridle on my chain and have yet to suffer the fate. The cooper doesn't seem to snag like a grapnel either. Will consider making making a light duty pick soon for really rocky areas.laneends wrote:The more colourful the language when you realize that its just not coming free and you are going to have to cut the rope.
I use alot of rope as well though so anchor in sand and feed 30 or 40m out to land back on the edge of a reef rather then drop anchor on reef. Less chance of an anchor casualty.
