I'm not much of a PA man myself, but I gotta agree there Andrew. For the kind of waters the PA was made for the 180 drive is a great addition. I'm also very fond of the rudder tension system, which I would give one of my left nuts for to have on the AI

Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.

TBH the benefit of SH is you get to try it, work out what you like, or even if you like yakking. Then you can resell, without a huge loss and get the spanking new one that you know is right for you down the track.

Thats the reason i got an pre set up old adventure first was to see if I liked the concept, rather than go straight to a revo 16 just to find it wasn't for me after spending $3500 on a new one or so by the time it was set up.

As Josh says though, dont over value the accessories, they may get you through one season while learning the ropes, then you will upgrade them if not the whole yak.

Thats true. Buy smart and you can even make a profit after using it for a year ;-)

Well after looking at some completed listing i think the pa 14 which is set up with the sounder and rod holders would be a good fit for a fair price. I'm fond of the general consensuses that it should keep its resell value. Thanks again for all the input hopefully in the near future ill get to fish with a few of you. Did anyone else look at the photo where you can see the turbo fins edges looking a little odd?

wavy fins are normal with some wear. Once too wavy you replace them as they loose tension. Still work but loose efficiency. They are a consumable item like tyres, not a deal breaker. Get new fins and keep these as spares in due course.

A standard package had the basics from which to build. Buy a cheap compromise now and when you get to what you actually need as @laneend implies you will have spent what a new 2017 would have cost anyway...but you still wont have the 360.

For what its worth sit on your money a while longer and do it once and do it right. A PA 12 looks nice but with respect to comparison with a PA14 its not even 50% the way there. Both are an ordeal to car top, so think long and hard on that one...do you really want to stuff your back quicktime loading on and off EVERY time you want to fish. Trailer is slide on/off easy as, BUT parking is a real pain in the ass.....thus choice is nusance or damaged back IMHO

good luck
I car top my PA12 and find it very easy. I use the sidebar loading method so I just pull the kayak up to the car on a 45 degree angle lift the bow up onto the loading bar then lift the back up and turn it onto the roofracks. Of course it depends on your physical ability but if you use a good lifting technique you can avoid back injury. It also depends on your car, I wouldn't want to be lifting a PA onto a SUV but if you have a sedan or wagon you don't have to lift the kayak above shoulder height which makes it much easier. Car topping a PA isn't the right option for everyone but for me the convenience of a trailer doesn't make up for the nuisance of parking it.

Try gumtree, there is often more on there and it is easier to go check them and make an offer. Ebay is too easy to buy unseen or get carried away.
