Hi guys been lurking round this place for a while now. Absolutely love it so many good fish being caught.

Looking for opinions on this hobie yak for sale. it seems quite tidy but very little info. Can anyone tell me weather the mirage drive looks like a respectable version?

I know only used once and it looks new. It is expensive though. You are better off buying one with more work done to it. Eg. Fish Finder, lighting, storage etc. Perhaps upgraded wheels. All that stuff adds up very fast.

from the picture it looks like the mirage drive is got a bit of a ragged edge?

I have the same kayak. Similar setup as well when I bought mine. It was 2 years ago. I paid $2600. This is an older model one where before the vantage seat.

All those add-ons (not including the time spent) would be over 1K above that PA12 you saw. I'm surprised it is going for $2600+. That would be the most I would expect.

You have to decide if you want it on a trailer or roof mounted. If trailer get one selling with the trailer.

There are lot more PA14's than PA12 out on the market.

It's an early PA12, no rudder tension control on the left side near the seat.
Check for rips in the stitching of the seat in the corners on the early seats.
I sold mine before Xmas on gumtree with an elite5 gps fish finder and a few more options for under 3k, however this looks very neat.
The drive is ok it will have turbo fins as standard on the PAs and cost around $200 for the parts to convert to glide tech(no reverse).
In saying that my PA12 was a great yak and never an issue with it if you look after them.

That first one listed looks like a reasonable deal to me if it has only been used a handful of times. I don't fully agree with Vicyak's comment, because for all you know the accessories might not suit your needs (not all rod holders suit all circumstances, not all sounders are equal, etc etc) and might not be installed where you want them. There is no single silver-bullet solution in terms of gear and fitout that will suit everyone. Admittedly this is usually less of an issue with PA's with H-rails, as gear can generally be moved with ease, and anchor trolleys can be switched to the opposite side with minimum of effort. So I am speaking in general terms and my perspective applies more so to other models. But if you look at a fully rigged yak and say to yourself, 'yep, thats everything I want and it all looks about right' then why not.

I'd rather buy a kayak with little to no accessories so I could configure it precisely to my needs, with the accessories that are best designed for my requirements. So long as you get a good deal on the yak itself that very well might work out better in the end.

Ideally, but it depends if you have blown all your budget for the near future. If you have no cash left to get it as you would like, then inclusive gear may get you a season to try stuff out. Especially as a newbie where it would take time on the water to work out what would suit you best. Buying new accessories without experience can still result in you buying inappropriately. Few get it right first time.

Extra accessories on a used kayak is a lot like extra accessories on a used car. They may add value to the right person, but just as often, not really. As for buying new accessories without experience, well, thats why it can help to speak to the right people rather than just buying willy-nilly or relying on someones personal account that you read somewhere on the Internet.

I feel the 2016 PA14 got the craft just about spot on. Anything older is just trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
A standard package had the basics from which to build. Buy a cheap compromise now and when you get to what you actually need as @laneend implies you will have spent what a new 2017 would have cost anyway...but you still wont have the 360.

For what its worth sit on your money a while longer and do it once and do it right. A PA 12 looks nice but with respect to comparison with a PA14 its not even 50% the way there. Both are an ordeal to car top, so think long and hard on that one...do you really want to stuff your back quicktime loading on and off EVERY time you want to fish. Trailer is slide on/off easy as, BUT parking is a real pain in the ass.....thus choice is nusance or damaged back IMHO
